Exhibition of Books invitation, undated
Scope and Contents
This series documents the various events that have been held at the Pratt Institute Library since the building’s opening in 1896. Not included in the collection, yet related to the series, are the posters that have been collected from campus events, especially the library. This series includes the addresses for the opening of the library building in 1896, remarks on Library Park in 1924, remarks on North Porch in 1936, correspondence regarding tea service, an invitation to Rice Estes’ slide show in 1966, correspondence about the 1990 exhibit celebrating the 100th anniversary of the library school, a flyer for the 2001 event “Not a Fine Day,” and the 100th anniversary of the library building.
The library's 100th anniversary in 1996 is a well-documented series of events in this series. The documents range from 1995 to1998. These different folders—treated as one event— have been arranged by item type within the chronologically arranged series. Included are invitations, tickets, programs, event flyers, publicity, Friends of the Library programs, staff photographs, video notes, article drafts, correspondence, committee materials, and materials from other organizations celebrating 100th anniversaries. The 100th anniversary materials also include a box of electronic media that relate to a video produced by the library—100 Years in Library Park. This box contains one floppy disk drive, three Sony D2M-12M digital video cassettes used as editing masters, two Maxell BetacamSP tapes from National Video Industries, Inc. with WRS animation, eight Sony BCT-30MA BetacamSP tapes used as edit masters, one VHS tape with library exterior views from 1995, and four VHS tapes with the completed 100 Years in Library Park video.
