Institute Publications

This collection consists of directories, handbooks, guides, newsletters, magazines, journals, and other publications created and issued by Pratt Institute from 1892 up until the present.

A large component of this collection consists of issues of newsletters such as the Pratt Institute Monthly (1892-1904), Pratt Institute Students’ Bulletin (1901-1942), (the PI Newsletter (1953-1988), the Gateway (1990-2010), and the Pratt Institute News (1941-1946) which offer insight into campus events, the social lives of students, social and cultural events of Pratt and the surrounding community, work of faculty members, and broader changes in the Institute and campus life.

Additionally, the collection includes publications created by Pratt to help orient and acquaint students and faculty with the various resources and programs offered by the school. These publications include directories of students, faculty, and staff and information regarding the facilities and the structure of Pratt Institute’s departments. Also in the collection are academic guides and handbooks generated for Pratt Institute students from 1934 to 2016 that provide information regarding the campus, various student groups and programs, policies, and resources available throughout various time periods in Pratt’s history. Also from 1990 to 2010, Pratt Institute developed a publication named Career Briefs which provided insight to art students regarding career paths and prospects in the arts and related industries.

The collection also includes issues of the Pratt publication, Prattfolio, beginning with its inaugural issue in 1971 and continuing up to the present. This publication is created by the Pratt Department of Communications and Marketing and highlights the ongoing work of Pratt students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
